  1. The West Valley Occupational Center is putting on its annual free health fair to the public today from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. It will provide blood pressure, cholesterol, glucose, prostate exams and STD testing. Many healthcare organizations will be present, including AIDS Foundation, Alcoholics Anonymous, Walgreens and Planned Parenthood.

  • Whole Foods Market will present a check for $2,606.35 to the Los Angeles Community Garden Council to benefit community gardens across the City of Los Angeles today at 1 p.m. at the Sepulveda Garden Center.

  • The Teen Library Council will be meeting today at 4 p.m. at the Encino Tarzana Library, 18231 Ventura Blvd. Co-sponsored by Friends of the Library, this council allows teens to help plan events and offer opinions on programs and materials offered to youths at the library.

  • Registration for free tutoring through the Los Angeles Unified School District is starting soon at the Huntington Learning Center. This effective, free program is paid for by the Federal government and is offered at no cost to students under the “No Child Left Behind Act”. For information on the program, visit: btb.lausd.net/ses.

  • The Encino Community Center has teamed up with the Encino Neighborhood Council for a food drive. The local SOVA Community Food and Resource Program has placed a collection bin at the community center and will bring all goods to the Encino food pantry housed at Valley Beth Shalom Synagogue. All nonperishable items are welcome, but there is a special need for powdered milk, diapers, dried fruit and cereal bars.
