Prohibition Burgers & Beer Opens to the Public

The new restaurant on Ventura Boulevard jumps on the gourmet burger bandwagon.

Prohibition Burgers & Beer, a new gourmet burger restaurant on Ventura Boulevard, officially opened to the public on Saturday.

The restaurant ran into some issues with the health inspector that delayed its grand opening, but it was finally approved through the county's plan check system last Thursday. Don't be fooled by the dead phone line and the uninformative website, which has not been updated.

"There were some issues, cosmetic issues—nothing major that would require plans or permits being pulled from the city," said environmental health specialist Mina Wosk, who works for the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health.

Prohibition Burgers & Beer was allowed to hold private events, which they called "soft openings," until they made the small fixes.

“We really are trying to mold a place that’s friendly to the community, but yet has a theme that gives you a feeling that this place is a little different than everywhere else,” said owner Alex Chernavski.

The menu includes an extensive beer collection and five burgers that are all made with prime USDA-approved meat. Also offered are appetizers, including mac and cheese, fried mozzarella balls and classic grilled-cheese sandwiches.

“We have a special blend that we use for the burgers,” said Chernavski. “Our veggie burger is also delicious.”

Prohibition Burgers & Beer, 17620 Ventura Blvd., is open daily from 11 a.m. to midnight.
