Update: Man Dies in Sepulveda Boulevard Collision

Minutes after the 405 freeway closure at midnight, a fatal accident occurs in the Sepulveda Pass.

A Honda driver died in a head-on collision with a Porsche on the 3700 block of Sepulveda Boulevard near Valley Meadow Road at 12:09 a.m. Saturday.

The driver of a red Honda Civic, headed north, swerved onto the wrong side of the road and struck a Porsche Carrera head-on, Los Angeles police spokeswoman Karen Rayner said.

Firefighters rescued the Honda driver who was temporarily trapped in his vehicle, said a desk officer at the Los Angeles Police Department's Valley Traffic Division who declined to give his name. He was hospitalized with injuries, but later died, according to officials.

The name of the dead man was being withheld, but Rayner said he was a 28- year-old Los Angeles man.

The Porsche driver was a 61-year-old Encino man, who suffered minor injuries, according to police and firefighters.

Sepulveda Boulevard is supposed to be for local traffic only during the 53 hours the 405 freeway is being closed during 'Carmageddon', but authorities are not strictly enforcing the local-traffic-order.
