5 Things You Need to Know Today: Oct. 4

From a new mom column to a call for former Encino Oaks students, here are some Encino Patch tidbits that you may have missed.

Welcome to "5 Things you Need to Know Today," a new Patch column where we give the readers essential information at a glance. Check back tomorrow  for more, and let us know what you think of the new feature in the comments.

  1. Are you tired of buying your fish at the same supermarket each week? Switch up your routine by visiting the Drydock Fish Company booth at the Encino Farmers Market.
  2. Local sports fans ought to read up on the construction of the new Sepulveda Dam Sports Complex. Tell us what you think of the plans for new sports fields and facilities in the Sepulveda Basin.
  3. Calling all moms! If you're still trying to increase your cool factor, you must check out our Encino Mom column. Susan Spillman talks about her kids' desire for her to find a "real" Halloween costume this year.
  4. Patch is looking for former students and teachers of Encino Oaks Elementary school. Encino Oaks flourished during the late 1970's and early 1980's due to mandatory busing forced on L.A. Public Schools. If you were once connected to the school, please get in touch with me at laurenr@patch.com.
  5. Don't hang up that rain slicker just yet. Our weather forecast calls for overcast skies and occasional showers through Wednesday. The sun should poke out on Thursday, and stay shining Friday when the Crespi football Celts take on Taft High School.
