Patch Picks: Top Spots To Have A Picnic

The Encino area is home to great parks for a scenic picnic and outdoor fun.

Don't let the cloudy weather keep you indoors! A family picnic is a fun way to spend quality time together. Here's a look at five local areas that are scenic and picnic-friendly.

is a California rancho that features the nine-room del la Ossa Adobe, a two-story limestone Garnier building, a blacksmith shop, a natural spring and a pond. The tranquil surroundings are perfect for a picnic and to learn more about our Encino ancestry. Los Encinos State Historic Park is among the 70 sites due to budget cuts. So head to the park soon and enjoy what it has to offer while you still can.

is a fantastic place to enjoy a picnic with your pooch in tow. The park offers sections for small dogs, timid dogs and large dogs. There are picnic tables and chairs set up in each of the areas. The park is open from dawn until dusk.

is the ideal place if you’re looking to have a picnic and participate in some fun activities. Lake Balboa offers kayaking, fly fishing, a playground and trails for jogging and bike riding. You can also enjoy the scenic views of the lake, birds and cherry blossom trees.

Westridge-Canyonback Wilderness Park has more than 1,500 acres of open space with amazing views of the ocean and the mountains. You can choose between easy or difficult hiking trails. The trails are open to hikers, mountain bikers and even your beloved four-legged friend.

has tennis courts, basketball courts, a children's playground and tricycle/wheelchair track to help you burn some calories before chowing down on some delicious picnic food. There are several picnic tables and grassy lawns throughout the park to accommodate a big group of family and friends.
