Roundup of Encino Neighborhood Council Meeting

Agenda items include the campaign to save Los Encinos State Historic Park and honoring the Encino Little League.

Here are some highlights from Wednesday's Encino Neighborhood Council meeting:

Los Encinos State Historic Park

ENC Vice President Laurie Kelson spoke on the council's strong opposition to the impending closure of . She said that a letter-writing campaign was the most effective way to reach Gov. Jerry Brown, and that petitions were not as effective. According to Kelson, 70 historic parks have been slated for closure in California.

The ENC also recognized the work of three young community members who sold cookies to help fund work to save the park (Patch on these remarkable youngsters). Ryan, Jake and Bryce Goldman attended the meeting, and were applauded for their efforts by the ENC.

Assemblyman Bob Blumenfeld's Office: An Update

Erik Rodriguez of Assemblyman Bob Blumenfield's office reminded the ENC that there would be a Disaster Preparedness Resource Fair and Workshop at the Encino Community Center on Saturday from 11 a.m to 2 p.m. Rodriguez said members of the Los Angeles Fire Department would be in attendance, and that the Red Cross was planning a special puppet show for kids.

Food Drive Is Ongoing

ENC Secretary Shelley Rivlin said the food drive was still very much alive, and that if anyone had food to donate, they could drop it in the special bin in the . It would then be taken to the food pantry at .

Presentation to Encino Little League

Local Little Leaguers were awarded plaques . The teams—and their coaches—were in attendance at the meeting to be recognized for their good work.

ENC Says Thank You to Patch's Lauren Rosenblum

ENC President Louis Krokover thanked Encino Patch's first editor, Lauren Rosenblum, for all her work with the council during the past year. Rosenblum started her new job at Huffington Post this week.

Councilman Paul Koretz's Office: An Update

, political aide for Councilman Paul Koretz, told the ENC that President Barack Obama would be visiting Los Angeles on Monday, and that street closures were expected. Ebenstein said he expected La Cienega and Sunset boulevards and Melrose Avenue to be closed from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. that day (he was most likely referring to the sections of these streets that run through Hollywood), which may add to traffic on Mulholland Drive.

He also thanked the ENC, along with the , for providing sponsorship for a . Ebenstein said that between 250 and 300 local residents came out for the event.
