Take a Drive Across the Valley in 1940

Board the Wayback Machine and see the San Fernando Valley before it became a sprawling suburban community.

Kevin Roderick over at LA Observed came across this marvelous footage of rural San Fernando Valley from 1940.

"Devonshire (Street) in 1940 was a rural state highway through the horse ranches of Northridge and Chatsworth, leading to Santa Susana Pass and Ventura County," he points out.

"... It likely passes the small ranch facing Devonshire that newlyweds Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz moved into in 1940, and the larger Marwyck thoroughbred ranch owned by Zeppo Marx and Barbara Stanwyck that is now city parks property," Roderick says.
