Take a 'Staycation' Right in Your Own Backyard

Staying at home this spring break? Here are a few ideas to keep the family entertained.

Warmer spring weather this week is a welcome respite from the rainy days of winter, and you may feel like getting away and taking a break. But with gas prices soaring, you might be in the mood for something closer to home.

This week we've gathered five spring staycation ideas that'll bring the fun and relaxtion to your Encino backyard.

Westridge-Canyonback Wilderness Park - This Encino park has more than 1,500 acres of open space with amazing views of the ocean and surrounding mountains. Soak up the sun and take a hike on a peaceful canyon trail. The trails are open to hikers, mountain bikers and dogs without leashes, so be prepared to share the trail with man's best friend.

Movie Marathon - For this staycation, bring old movies back to your TV screen. Grab your significant other, spouse, children or friends and head to the nearest Blockbuster video store to pick your favorite titles. Buy some popcorn and candy, soda and chips, and bring home a bunch of movies for an old-fashioned movie marathon. Aim only to get off the sofa to replenish your popcorn bowl, and make sure to wear your pajamas the entire time.

Host a Barbeque - Going out can be fun, but sometimes just staying home and hanging out with family and friends can be much more entertaining. Serve up a batch of baked beans, burgers and hot dogs. Turn on some music, throw a few bags of chips in a bowl and fill a pitcher with lemonade. Don't forget to serve homemade s'mores for dessert. Simple, easy and cost effective!

Dtox Day Spa - Looking for a relaxing and calming getaway without leaving town? This spa offers facials, body treatments, hair removal and tub treatments. After a treatment you can unwind on lounge chairs on the shaded sundeck or rest in the relaxation room, where tea and snacks are provided.

When the mercury starts to rise, it's time to grab your sunscreen and get a dose of vitamin D. This local park features picnic areas, basketball and tennis courts, a playground, tricycle and wheelchair track and grassy lawns. Open a picnic basket and enjoy the afternoon with family and friends.
