Teens Celebrate National Poetry Month at the Encino-Tarzana Library

Students find their inner poet during Thursday's Coffee and Couplets event at the library.

Thehosted its second annual teen poetry event on Thursday, where local youth read original compositions or favorite works by established poets. The program, called Coffee and Couplets, was led by Candice Mack, the Teen Services Librarian.

Coffee and Couplets is being held in celebration of National Poetry Month for students between the ages of 11 and 18.

Whole Foods also provided coffee and snacks for the program, which will continue on Thursdays from 4 to 5 p.m. throughout April.

"My goal is to really help create a space for them where they know it’s a free place to go to after school or on the weekends," Mack said. "We’re one of the last free places for kids to go where they can just hang out and have fun."
