The People You Meet in the Street — The Chicken Lady

When you stop and talk to a stranger on Ventura Boulevard...

You never know what kind of character you can meet by walking down Ventura Boulevard in Encino. On Wednesday, I met the Chicken Lady.

As I was taking a picture of a building, the Chicken Lady spotted me, called me over and asked if I would take a picure of her and her family. I obliged, and as we chatted, I told her I was an editor for Patch. She then informed me that I must do a story about her. I asked her why.

"Because I'm Pat Koren, the Chicken Lady!" she exclaimed.

As a trained journalist, when one introduces themselves as the Chicken Lady, I do see the potential for a story.

The Chicken Lady got her name because she runs a business downtown that sells wholesale chickens to restaurants and markets like Gelsons, the Chicken Lady told me.

As it turns out, the Chicken Lady was celebrating her birthday on Wednesday with breakfast at Western Bagel with a few members of her family, including her mother, who also shares the same birthday. The Chicken Lady hails from Israel but has lived in Encino and Tarzana for 35 years, and was planning lunch at the Chop Stop and dinner at Kravings as part of her birthday celebration.

Here's a sincere happy birthday wish to the Chicken Lady from Patch.
