British Filmmakers Share the Love

This weekend, Encino kicks off its celebration of the UK's finest new film releases in 'From Britain With Love' at the Laemmle.

The British are coming! If you've been going cold turkey since and , then you could do a lot worse than head down to the for a celebration of all things Anglo. Over the next six weekends through July 24, the Encino theater is one of four Los Angeles cinemas playing host to 'From Britain With Love', a film series showcasing six new feature films from across the pond.

'From Britain With Love' features three movies making their US premieres: Toast, In Our Name, and Third Star, as well as three other films that have had festival screenings stateside: A Boy Called Dad, Africa United and NEDs.

Toast, which stars the perpetually splendid Helena Bonham-Carter, kicks off the screening series on Saturday morning at 11 a.m. Based on the life of famed British cook Nigel Slater, the film promises to be a feast for the senses, crammed as it is full of delicious-looking treats.

In Our Name (screening June 25 and 26) showcases actress Joanne Froggatt as a British soldier dealing with her return from Iraq; Africa United (July 2 and 3) looks at three Rwandan children who walk 3,000 miles to see the South African World Cup; Third Star (July 9 and 10) tracks the adventures of a terminally ill man on a coastal retreat; NEDs (July 16 and 17) is about British gang life (NEDs are 'Non-Educated Deliquents'); and A Boy Called Dad (July 23 and 24) follows the fortunes of a 14-year-old father.
