Today: Persian Film Night at Encino-Tarzana Library

The free screening of "Gashte Ershad" is expected to attract a sizeable crowd.

The Encino-Tarzana Library will screen a popular Persian feature film Wednesday as part of the library’s efforts to provide cultural programming to the local Persian community.

Titled Gashte Ershad (Guidance Police), the film will be screened from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. The screening is open to the community and there is no viewing fee.

The film is an internationally exhibited comedy based on real-life events in Iran, specifically the practice of forcing women to adhere to strict religious dress codes.

“We've been doing it for about a year now and it has been pretty popular with the community,” Senior Librarian David Hagopian said, referring to the library’s Persian Film Night events.

“Not all of the movies have English subtitles and we generally make a note of that on the flyers and on our calendar,” Hagopian said, adding: “This one does not.”
