Area Heatwave Could Spark Brush Fire Danger, Weather and Fire Officials Say

Weather experts and fire officials warn high temperatures combined with dry brush areas create potential fire hazards.

A dangerous heat wave is expected to hit parts of Southern California beginning Tuesday, bringing triple-digit temperatures to inland valley areas.

Officials said the hot, dry conditions are also raising the danger for wildfires. 

"The only thing that's really saving us here in Southern California is I don't see any high winds in the forecast," said Bill Patzert, a climatologist at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in La Cañada Flintridge. "But when temperatures escalate, it turns a really dry situation into an incendiary situation. All you need is a little trigger. Everything is in place except an ignition."
