Chocolate Matzoh Ice Cream and Matzoh Tiramisu -- Who Knew?

Find fantastic Passover desserts in Encino and Chatsworth.

How sinful can you get on Passover? There's that big meal. And four glasses of wine. And don't bother sitting up straight. You are encouraged to slouch or even recline while the tale of the Exodus from Egypt is retold.

And then dessert. Macaroons? Meringue cookies? Sponge cake? Feh!

Find something different. Walk into Pastries by Edie, 17316 Ventura Blvd., in Encino, and you can put on five pounds just looking in the display case of delectables.

Fleishman, founder and CEO of Umami Burger, liked the icy treats so much that he took an ownership stake in the company.

Chocolate Matzoh Ice Cream is made with Madagascar vanilla bean ice cream with handcrafted chocolate covered matzoh. The salt in the matzoh balances this flavor profile beautifully.

Monday is the first night of Passover and it continues for 7 days. “Generally the first and second nights and the last night are big dinners. Last year the company rolled out Passover themed ice cream that sold out within days of hitting markets,” said Fleischman. The Chocolate Matzoh ice cream is on sale  at Joan’s on Third in West Hollywood, Vicente Foods in Brentwood, The Farmshop in Brentwood, Monsieur Marcel in Beverly Hills, PC Greens Market in Malibu, The Oaks Gourmet in Hollywood and Olive & Thyme in Burbank.

Call the company headquarters in Chatsworth at (818) 701-7090. Maybe they have some left.
