Danzmundo World Dance & Fitness Studio Opens in Encino

Claudia Shelton and Joey Kormier kick off studio's opening with demonstration classes.

Dance instructor Claudia Shelton and her husband, personal trainer Joey Kormier, have combined their expertise to start up Danzmundo World Dance & Fitness Studio in Encino, which opened over the Labor Day weekend.

The couple kicked off the studio's opening by holding demonstration classes.

"We would love to have everybody join us in an effort to get healthy and active and just to have fun," said Shelton, who was a dance instructor at in Encino.

Kormier will be teaching the Infinity workout for adults and kids. Infinity training sessions are boot-camp-style, interval-based workouts designed to tone muscles and burn fat.

With childhood obesity so prevalent, Kormier said, it is important to get kids accustomed to living a healthy and active lifestyle at an early age.

A will be offered for those who find dancing intimidating and boot camp too intense. In addition, the studio is expected to offer Pilates, yoga and traditional boot-camp workouts.

"I love the classes; I've taken exercise for a long time at another fitness place, but Claudia's class is the most fun class ever," said Tarzana resident Michelle Samit. "You cannot leave her class without being in the best mood. It's wonderful; I had no idea that fitness could be that much fun."

Shelton combines movements from dances around the world and fuses them together for aerobic interval training and muscle strengthening. She is a group fitness certified instructor, and a classically trained dancer in ballet and ethnic dance in her native Chile. Kormier's background involves sports and martial arts with old-school training techniques and new-school fitness technology.
