Encino Family Pharmacy Opens on Ventura Boulevard

The new business is offering free prescription deliveries and cheap 'flu shots, and says it will beat the prices of the competition.

Encino Family Pharmacy opened its doors in the neighborhood in October at 16060 Ventura Blvd. The new store is nestled between A Bizzy Box and Abraham Bagel, and plans to hold its grand opening by the end of the year.

The pharmacist and owner of the business, Amir Kohan, was born and raised in Encino, and said it made sense for him to open the store close to home. He attended Lanai Road School, Portola Middle School and Birmingham High School before heading to UCLA. He then studied at Western University of Health Science in Pomona and gained his pharmacology qualification.

After graduating, he worked as a pharmacist at Rite Aid locations in Chatsworth and Encino before setting up his own business on the boulevard.

Kohan says that he will match or beat most pharmacist perscription prices in the area, and is currently running a special offer ($15) on 'flu shots. The pharmacy also offers a free delivery service, automatic refill reminders, a charge account facility, and can even text customers when their orders are ready to pick up.

He is also a compounding pharmacist, which means, he says "that people can create their drugs anyway they like." He can also compound perscriptions from vetinarians.

Kohan said that it has been his "dream" for a long time to have his own pharmacy in his home town.

"I like the personal interaction that comes with having my own pharmacy," he said.
