Fromin's Deli Will Soon Be Uncle Bernie's Deli

The new owner of the Encino landmark wants to restore the deli's standing in the community.

Fromin's Deli located at 17615 Ventura Blvd. in Encino has a new owner, Norman Green.  The restaurant has been transitioning over the last 30 days but will soon launch a new menu and name, "Uncle Bernie's Deli."

"I named the deli after my Uncle Bernie, who lives in Beverly Hills," Green said in an interview with Encino Patch. "[He] is a great business man and wonderful person."

The 49-year-old deli known for its overstuffed pastrami sandwiches and éclairs, has changed hands three times since it opened in 1962.

“It was a huge family place where grandparents and grandkids and the parents of the kids all came in together traditionally eating Jewish dishes and following the Fromin family that owned this place for so long,” said Hal Bresin, a waiter at Fromin’s for 31 years. “And when they left it all changed. So I think that [the new owners] will help bring it back.”

“My goal is to make a difference, make everybody happy, bring it back to what it used to be,” Green said.
