Great Escape: Drinking With 'The Princess Bride'

It's a night of theater, drinks and a retro movie in this twist of pop culture.

Great Escape takes on a new meaning with a live staged reading, flicks from the '80s and an Irish pub, all mixed together for one raucous evening of fun for the over-21 set. Enter A Drinking Game—a company of actors who perform scenes from favorite films—in an event that happens for one night only every couple months.

The twist in this game is that each film comes with phrases and buzz words that prompt both the actors and the audience to take a drink. Past films include Ghostbusters, Back to the Future, Karate Kid, The Three Amigos and Wayne’s World.

This Saturday, the toasts go out to The Princess Bride at Molly Malone’s Pub from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Imagine the drinks downed when Inigo Montoya (played by Mandy Patinkin in the film) says that famous line: “Hello. My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die!”

By attending, you are not required to drink alcohol (water and soda are available), but if imbibing happens, then all participants must promise to “drink and laugh responsibly.” That means have a designated driver or order a cab—and be respectful of your fellow audience and the actors on stage.

Ticket price per person is $10 for the show. Cost of drinks is extra. Included in the price of admission is a goodie bag especially themed for the film.
