Lap-Band VIP To Remove Ads After FDA Warning

Lap-Band VIP in Tarzana will pull ads for its weight loss aid.

Driving the freeway you may have stumbled across an advertisement that read something like this: “Tiffany Lost over 100 lbs. Actual Patient. Results may vary.”

Those ads will not be up much longer. The Tarzana-based company Lap-Band VIP is in the process of taking down these billboards after being warned by the FDA, according to the Los Angeles Times. The Times story noted that "the Food and Drug Administration said that Lap-Band VIP's advertising ... was misleading because it failed to include adequate warnings about the surgery's risks."

According to its website, the Lap-Band is an adjustable band that is surgically implanted around the stomach to discourage overeating and aid weight loss. Videos on the company's Facebook page describe the process.
