New Businesses Are Opening In Northridge, and They're Hiring

Long-vacant storefronts are starting to fill.

If you've been wondering whether the Northridge economy is picking up, there may be a few signs.

Robert Kleinhenz, chief economist with the Los Angeles County Economic Development Corp., recently told an area business forum that 2013 should be the year when businesses finally start to feel the economy turning around.

It could already be happening. Have you noticed the number of long-vacant large retail spaces in Northridge that are starting to fill with new businesses? Just drive around with Patch and take a look.

Big Lots! is moving into the spot formerly occupied by discounter Marshalls at 8960 Tampa Ave. And they're hiring.

Over at the Northridge Fashion Center, 9301 Tampa Ave., construction work is moving ahead rapidly on the Elephant Bar restaurant where On the Border once held sway. And they're hiring.

To the east, the Northridge Suit Outlet has opened a bright new free-standing store at 10141 Reseda Blvd. where O'Reilly Auto Parts once operated.

Is there a new retail business near your neighborhood? Tell us what and where in the comments box below.

Constant Comment 2 hours ago "don't they support you in getting yourself a real job? Or do they just support you, period? Awaiting your cut and paste" . . For your information I have supported myself since moving to California 25 years ago. I've been at my current employer for eight years this month. Any other fabrications you need me to refute.

Still didn't see your opinion on new businesses opening in my neighborhood. Do you want to actually contribute to the conversation?

Carl Petersen III WROTE: 9:45 am on Monday, February 18, 2013 " simply making up facts does not make them true." YOU just wrote that! And yes I do agree that what you just wrote is rather "sad" ! So you DO sit around all day and live off your internet wife's childrens' disability checks! Thats despicable! Your current employer? Do you really consider banging a gong occasionally for a bad band, a job? Is that how you justify living off your kids disability checks? Wow, thats all very, very sad.

The Teller of Truth 10:07 pm on Monday, February 18, 2013 "So you DO sit around all day and live off your internet wife's childrens' disability checks! Thats despicable!" . . Since you have trouble comprehending, I'll type slower this time. If you added up the disability checks that we receive for the two kids and multiplied them by the Federal Debt, you wouldn't have enough money to pay the tax on one item at the 99 Cents store. In case you are also mathematically challenged, any number multiplied by zero is zero. The one in 88 children diagnosed with autism do not receive disability checks. As I have said before, simply endlessly repeating an accusation does not make it true.
