Weekend Planner: Festivals, and Living History Day at Los Encinos Park

Revisit the 1870s at the local state park; Burbank Film Festival, other community events on tap.

When/Where: Sunday, 1-3 p.m., Los Encinos State Historic Park, 16756 Moorpark St., Encino.

Why Go: It's living history right in your backyard. Enjoy an afternoon of traditional children’s games, music, a blacksmith, docents in 1870s attire and tours of the historic buildings.

Burbank Film Festival

When/Where: Thursday through Sunday, various times and venues; check the website for schedules.

Why Go: It's a chance to see the works of up-and-coming filmmakers, and to educate yourself at various seminars. Special events and red-carpet party packages are open to the public.

Pricing: Event prices vary.

The Port of Los Angeles Lobster Festival

When/Where: Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Ports O' Call Village, San Pedro.

Why Go: It's out of the 818, but worth the drive to feast on Maine lobster and enjoy dancing, parades, street performers, a pirate camp, tall ships, shopping for arts and crafts, and musical performances by some incredible bands, courtesy of KROQ. If you're not into lobster or seafood, some food trucks will roll in as well.

Pricing: $10 for adults (get a $2 discount coupon on the website); free for kids under 12. Food is extra.

The Great Wall of Los Angeles Community Picnic

When/Where: Sunday, 3-6 p.m., on Coldwater Canyon Avenue between Burbank Boulevard and Oxnard Street.

Why Go: Celebrate the restoration of the half-mile-long Great Wall of Los Angeles Mural—the largest monument to interracial harmony in America today. The Social and Public Art Resource Center (SPARC) is presenting a three-hour celebration featuring keynote speakers, musicians and poets. Bring a blanket, picnic and enjoy the rededication of the longest mural in the world. Food trucks will also be rolling in.

Pricing: Free.

E-Waste Recycling Fundraiser

When/Where: Friday and Saturday, 10 a.m.-3 p.m., Planet Green, 20724 Lassen St., Chatsworth.

Why Go: Gather up all your electronic gear and bring it in. Accepted items include inkjet and laser printers, cartridges, copiers, TVs, cameras, cellphones, telephone equipment, monitors, computers, keyboards and laptops. Proceeds benefit Rancho San Antonio Boys Home in Chatsworth.
