What Should Go Below Encino's Bed Bath & Beyond?

A bookstore? A cafe? Let us know what you think!

The Courtyard Shops of Encino Shopping Center is one of the best known locations in the neighborhood. Aside from being the home of many businesses, including Bed Bath & Beyond, it was also famously used as a key filming location for the popular 2005 movie The 40-Year-Old Virgin.

But there's been a key vacancy at the shopping center, which is located at 17401 Ventura Blvd. After AT&T closed its store, which was right below Bed Bath & Beyond, it has remained vacant. According to Rob Quieros, manager of  next-door Western Bagel, the shop has been closed for about a year and a half.

"It's definitely affected business here," Quieros said. "A lot of the employees at the store used to come here every day for lunch."

What would you like to see take its place at the shopping center? Is there anything you wish Encino had that it doesn't? A pharmacy, another restaurant, or a bookstore? Tell us in the comments.

The closest public library is in a terrible location in an ugly building. An official Encino Public Library would get much more traffic in that key location of Encino in a much more attractive and inviting setting. Since Barnes & Noble left the Balboa location, our area has been bereft of a quality literary space, so the Courtyard area is the perfect place to place a new library.

I do not remember the space where the AT&T store used to be as being very large inside - I just hope that they do not put in another drugstore. I am in favor of a bookstore, I miss the Barnes & Noble.

PLEASE DO NOT PUT ANYTHING THAT HAS TO DO WITH PHARMACY OR MEDICAL OFFICES!! WE HAVE WAY TOO MANY ALREADY IN THE AREA!!! i would LOVE to see a GOOD BOOKSTORE come back in the area. Encino is not the same without the Barnes & Noble!!! TRADER JOE'S would be great, but i dont know how big the space is... an ARGENTINEAN RESTAURANT! its awesome food and we dont have any Argentinean Restaurant nowhere near Encino. or a great PASTA PLACE. just pasta, of all kinds. good quality sauces of all kinds. where you can mix and match your own thing. a coffee shop with GREAT finger food and pastries that OPENS TILL LATE HOURS. maybe 2 am or later. kind of like the old "Living Room" on La Brea, or "Insomnia". a COOL coffee shop that you can lounge comfortable till the late hours of the night, socializing, with great background music, and maybe some artisans selling their handmade art, or some cool guitar players that go there live with chillout acoustic guitar. ENCINO IS TOO BORING!! IT NEEDS LIFE!!

A bookstore would be great! They're opening what looks to be a cool Japanese restaurant, and the spa across the way, Dtox Day Spa is awesome! It's slowly getting there :)

Bookstore!!! We have so missed that since Barnes and Noble closed, or a nice restaurant with nice outdoor seating. It's a prime area where seating could be outside but not right on Ventura. Was thinking of The Silver Grill the other day, we used to go there all the time, it was so nice to sit out and relax over dinner.

A Hallmark store would be great! They just closed the closest Hallmark store in the Sherman Oaks Mall. Barnes and Noble opening here would be fantastic! Bring back some stores in this area that people actually want to shop at! NO MORE DRUGSTORES OR BANKS!

The Tarzana design sux, simple ugly & non energy conservant- Woodland Hills looks like a nice hotel in Santa Barbara. As for the location I think a CVS or Chase bank branch would be kool!

It would be nice if we could have a quaint cafe with a piano bar.

The sushi restaurant across the way looks fancy. How about an S Factor or bookstore in the vacant spot? I agree with you CMM- dtox day spa is such a hidden gem! That's where " 40-year-old Virgin" was filmed. i like that these new owners took over the spa and made it a high-end luxury boutique day spa like dtox. Their Signature Experience massage is heaven. That reminds me - I cannot wait to send my mom there for Mother's Day for her annual Oxygen Facial!

Would love a bookstore! This location has a great area outside for coffee and tea and reading your newly purchased materials!
