5 Things You Need to Know Today: Nov. 1

Good bye October, hello November! Welcome the new month with the gift of literacy and the winner of the pumpkin carving contest.

  1. Before we all bid farewell to October, glance over a recap of last week. For any headlines you may have missed recently on Encino Patch, here's your week in review.
  2. Is your husband Homer Simpson? Our mom columnist, Susan Spillman, poses this question in her newset piece this week. From acting as guinea pigs for ADD medicine to getting stuck with cereal while the kids eat steak, dads are hardly the king of the castle, she says.
  3. Do you have any literature to spare? The Encino Barnes & Noble will be hosting a Holiday Book Drive today to collect as many books possible to give to children nation wide. This event will benefit the Reading to Kids program.
  4. Due to an all day in-service at the Saint Cyril of Jerusalem School there will be no classes today.
  5. Finally, after deliberation, the winner of the Patch Pumpkin Carving contest has been selected. Congratulations to Daniel and Jonathan Hamlin!
