5 Things You Need to Know Today: Oct. 30

Stay busy today with a nature walk, dance class, Halloween carnival or historic park tour.

  1. The San Fernando Valley Audubon Society will host its first nature walk at Bull Creek west of Balboa Lake at 9 a.m. A guided tour will be available to have an opportunity to learn about the Bull Creek Ecosystem Restoration Project.
  2. The Pilates Sports Center will host its second annual Zombie Zumba at 10 a.m.—a special Halloween version of their popular dance class. Professional dancer and Zumba teacher Kadee Sweeney will lead adults and kids through "Thriller" and "Time Warp" as well as other Zumba favorites. The family friendly event encourages kids to dress up with costumes for the themed event.
  3. The Encino Community Center has been transformed into a Halloween funland for today's children's carnival. The event will include games, a costume parade, trick-or-treating, a moon bounce and food from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.
  4. Did you know Encino is home to a real ghost story? Los Encinos State Historic Park is said to be haunted with ghosts of children and a spirit in the blacksmith shop. Take a tour of the De la Ossa Adobe at 2 p.m. today and learn more about the nineteenth century adobe.
  5. Meet Elebie Hernandez, the chef of More than Waffles, and try his signature Mediterranean Omelet. He shared his recipe with Encino Patch right here.
