Did you know U.S. marines landed on Guantánamo Bay during the Spanish-American War on this day in 1898?

  1. The proposed lines for redistricting are being released today. The redistricting commission will meet from 9 a.m until close of business to draw state Congressional, Assembly, Senate and Board of Equalization Districts.   • At least four of the teachers who received RIF notices found out that they will be allowed to return to their jobs next year. It is not yet known whether the four remaining elementary teachers who have received the layoff-warning notices will be asked back. The next hearing is scheduled for Tuesday. Click here for .

  • Similarly, five of the seven Lanai Road School teachers who received layoff notices from LAUSD, recently found out that their notices have been rescinded. Congratulations to Jennifer White, first grade; Ellyn Kent, second grade; Allison Ramsey, kindergarten; Marquita Morgan, kindergarten; and Susana Verdin, first grade.

  • Today in history: On June 10, 1898, U.S. Marines landed at Guantánamo Bay. For the next month, American troops fought a war in Cuba that resulted in the end of Spanish colonial rule in the Western Hemisphere, according to history.com.
