5 Things You Should Know About D-Day

Sixty-seven years ago, Allied Forces invaded France, marking a turning point in World War II.

1. Today marks the anniversary of the pivotal World War II invasion when Allied troops, mostly from the United States, Britain and Canada, landed in Normandy on June 6, 1944 to break the German occupation of Europe.

2. You can listen to President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s famous speech on the eve of the invasion of Normandy on YouTube. Just click on the video to the right.

3. There are a few movies that attempt to illustrate the intensity of the invasion of Normandy. You can commemorate the 67th anniversary of D-Day with these films: Band of Brothers, The Big Red One, The Longest Day and Saving Private Ryan.
