Blumenfield Honored by Charity During Valley Gala

The assemblyman was recognized for his work on issues of concern to seniors.

Assemblyman Bob Blumenfield was honored by ONEgeneration during its eighth Annual Hearts Across the Valley Gala for his leadership on seniors issues, including his efforts to protect adult day health care (ADHC).

“This is an incredible honor because I really believe in and am extremely proud of ONEgeneration’s work,” said Blumenfield.  “I frequently spoke about the virtues of ONEgeneration’s unique, multigenerational approach during last year’s fight to preserve adult day health care.  I’m pleased that debate is mostly settled and these important community services will be preserved for people in need.”

Congressman Howard Berman introduced Blumenfield to a crowd of over 300 at the gala, which also honored Carol Zimring, founder of the SHARE Project, and Cindy and Michel Moore, Assistant Chief of the Los Angeles Police Department.

“It meant so much to be introduced by my mentor and to be surrounded by generations of my family that night,” added Blumenfield.

ADHC is a community-based program providing health services to seniors at risk of being placed in nursing home care.  Last year, in his budget proposals, Governor Jerry Brown proposed to eliminate ADHC which operates through licensed centers like ONEgeneration.  Opposed to ADHC elimination, Blumenfield forged a compromise in Assembly Bill (AB) 96 to preserve these services for the most medically fragile seniors while operating at half the cost.  The bill was vetoed by the Governor whose administration, under threat of suit, ultimately reached a legal settlement last November to maintain these services in much the same way as was proposed under AB 96.

The California Association for Adult Day Services named Blumenfield its 2011 Legislator of the Year for his efforts to save ADHC.  They presented Blumenfield with a painting created by a patient at ONEgeneration.
