DA Won't File Charges Against Singer El DeBarge [VIDEO]

The artist was arrested in Encino on drug-related charges Tuesday.

Citing insufficient evidence, prosecutors have declined to file a case against singer El DeBarge in connection with his

DeBarge was arrested Monday afternoon after officers from the West Valley Station saw a possible narcotics transaction at White Oak Avenue north of the 101 Freeway in Encino, according to Los Angeles police Officer Wendy Reyes. The officers allegedly recovered narcotics from an area where DeBarge had been standing, Reyes said.

Police also arrested Curtis Freeman and booked him on suspicion of attempted narcotics possession, Reyes said. Prosecutors also declined to file a case against Freeman, citing insufficient evidence against him.

DeBarge is best known for the Grammy-winning song "Rhythm of the Night'" in the mid-1980s.
