Does a Free Rose Await You at Casa de Flores?

Or are you in need of leis for graduation and prom corsages? Look no further.

As you drive down Ventura Boulevard near Haskell Avenue, chances are you'll notice the enormous store sign for . Each week the florist gives away free roses to anyone whose name is featured on the sign, which on Monday proclaimed: "If your name is Helena, come in for a free rose."

Nancy Hasson, who owns the family-run store (it opened its doors 23 years ago), said that the sign was very effective for business, and that many people come in to claim their free flower. Parents often call to request their children's names be put on the sign in time for their birthdays; Casa de Flores, said Hasson, was happy to oblige.

Hasson said that the store was recovering from a busy Mothers Day season and dealing with the trail end of prom corsage orders. The next big event on the florist's calendar, she said, was graduation.
