UPDATE: Patch Editor Is Stranded in New York City After Hurricane Sandy

I'm supposed to be back in the Valley, but there's no way out of Manhattan.

Are you a Valley resident stuck in New York City because of Hurricane Sandy? If you are, you're not alone. I flew into JFK on Friday to celebrate a friend's engagement, but my flight back to LAX Monday was canceled because of the storm.

Luckily, I'm on the Upper East Side, which was spared the worst of the storm.

If you're here from the Valley and stuck, you should know that the drinking water is safe and extra chlorine has been added to it as a precaution, according to local news service NY1. The subway will probably remain closed for another three or four days. Laguardia and Newark airports are still closed; some flights may leave JFK late Wednesday. Check with your airline carrier for details before you travel.

The annual Halloween parade here in Greenwich Village has been canceled, but the New York Marathon is still currently set to go ahead on November 4.
