Runyon Canyon Park to Close Early on July 4th Weekend

Due to fire risk, park to close at 5 p.m. Friday to Monday.

Runyon Canyon Park in Los Angeles, a popular spot for viewing Fourth of July fireworks, will be closed well before sundown during the holiday weekend, a city panel has decided.

Responding to a report citing the danger of fire from people setting off illegal fireworks, the city Department of Recreation and Parks' Board of Commissioners voted to close the park at 5 p.m. from Friday to Monday. Current park hours are from dawn to dusk.

Police and park rangers are to be on hand during the early-closure period to ensure compliance and patrol the area, the report said.

The southern entrance to Runyon Canyon Park, noted for its hiking trails and vistas, is located at 2000 N. Fuller Ave. in Hollywood.
