Sections of the 405, Sunset, Sepulveda to Close For Bridge Work

Due to girder installation at the Sunset Bridge, the 405 Freeway, along with area streets, will close over the next few nights.

Crews began installing girders on the Sunset Bridge Tuesday and Metro officials say the work will continue through Friday. Due to the construction, sections of the 405 Freeway, along with area streets, will be closed overnight.

According to Metro, the following closures are scheduled:

May 1

  • Closure time: Midnight - 5 a.m.
  • Closure area: Southbound 405 Freeway, between the Church Lane southbound on-ramp and Wilshire Boulevard
  • Suggested detour: Traffic traveling south on the 405 Freeway will be detoured at the Sunset Boulevard off-ramp. Traffic will then be diverted to northbound Church Lane, to southbound Sepulveda Boulevard, to westbound Wilshire Boulevard, to the southbound 405 on-ramp. Oversized vehicles will be detoured from the southbound 405 Freeway at Getty Center Drive. Oversized traffic will then be diverted to southbound Sepulveda Boulevard, to westbound Wilshire Boulevard, to the southbound 405 on-ramp.

May 1-4

  • Closure time: 10 p.m.-6 a.m.
  • Closure area: Sunset Boulevard between Barrington Avenue and Veteran Avenue
  • Suggested detour: Traffic traveling west on Sunset Boulevard will be detoured to southbound Veteran Avenue, to westbound Wilshire Boulevard, to northbound Barrington Avenue, and then back to Sunset. Traffic traveling east on Sunset Boulevard will be detoured to southbound Barrington Avenue, to eastbound Wilshire Boulevard, to northbound Veteran Avenue, and then back to Sunset.

May 2-3

  • Closure time: Midnight-5 a.m.
  • Closure area: Northbound 405 Freeway between Montana Avenue and Moraga Drive ramps
  • Suggested detour: Traffic traveling north on the 405 Freeway will be detoured at the Montana Avenue off-ramp. Traffic will then be diverted to northbound Sepulveda Boulevard and back to the northbound 405 at Moraga Drive.

May 4

  • Closure time: 10 p.m.-6 a.m.
  • Closure area: Sepulveda Boulevard between Montana Avenue and Church Lane
  • Suggested detour: Traffic traveling north on Sepulveda Boulevard will be detoured to westbound Montana Avenue, to northbound Church Lane and back to Sepulveda. Traffic traveling south on Sepulveda Boulevard will be detoured to southbound Church Lane, to eastbound Montana Avenue and back to Sepulveda.

Metro says Sepulveda Boulevard will not be closed at the same time the 405 Freeway is scheduled to close.

Officials also say ramp closures may begin as early as 7 p.m., with full freeway closures expected to start at 10 p.m. The full freeway closures will be in effect from 12 a.m. to 5 a.m. on the dates mentioned above.

Emergency vehicles will have access to the areas at all times.
