Singer Jenni Rivera to Receive Posthumous 'Angel Award' from California Families in Focus
The television star and Encino resident was scheduled to receive the award before she was killed in a plane crash, organizers say.
California Families in Focus will hold its ninth annual Spirit of Christmas Brunch on Sunday at The Gaslamp Restaurant in Long Beach, benefiting women and children living at the Women Shelter of Long Beach, Woman to Woman and the Tarzana Treatment Center.
During the event, organizers will present an "Angel Award" to the family of the late singer Jenni Rivera, an Encino resident who donated pajamas and slippers for the women and was originally expected to be honored at the event before she was killed in a plane crash on Sunday.
Rivera was one of Mexico's biggest television stars, whose records dominate the "banda'' style of regional Mexican music popular in California and northwestern Mexico. She was born in and lived in Long Beach, and as an adult lived in Mexico and Encino.

The event will also feature Santa Claus, face painters, arts and crafts and a parade of about 400 motorcycles with riders delivering toys to children.
The event is closed to the public.
