Southbound 405 Closes Monday, Tuesday Nights for Construction

Crews continue to construct a new bridge across the San Diego Freeway at Mulholland Drive.

The key freeway linking L.A.'s Westside and the San Fernando Valley will be closed again Monday and Tuesday nights, state officials said.

On Monday and Tuesday nights, the southbound San Diego (405) freeway will be closed from the Ventura (101) Freeway to Getty Center Drive as crews continue to construct a new bridge across the 405 at Mulholland Drive.

The closures will allow contractors to build construction scaffolds above the freeway, next to the remaining half of the old Mulholland Drive overpass.

Sepulveda Boulevard will remain open next to the freeway during the closures as an alternate route. But it only has one lane in each direction in much of the work zone.

The $1.2 billion project will add carpool and exit lanes to the freeway and make other improvements to the 50-year-old 405 freeway between the 101 and the Santa Monica (10) Freeway. The overall project is scheduled to be completed next year, and is being run by the Metropolitan Transportation Authority in cooperation with Caltrans.
