UPDATE: Roads Closed as Storm Soaks Sepulveda Basin

Burbank Boulevard has been closed between Encino and Van Nuys, and Woodley Avenue has been closed near Lake Balboa.

Burbank Boulevard and Woodley Avenue have been closed due to heavy rain in the Sepulveda Basin, the city Fire department announced at Sunday morning. Stormwater is being retained in the flood control basin to avoid overloading downstream stretches of the Los Angeles River.

As a result, Burbank Boulevard has been closed between Encino and Van Nuys, and Woodley Avenue has been closed near Lake Balboa. Such closures are routine during heavy rain. The Sepulveda Dam and recreation area is closed.

Several drivers have stalled their cars on flooded streets. Officials are asking motorists to avoid driving during the severe weather.
