Viewfinder: Moms Go for Record in Breastfeeding

Local nursing moms gather at A Mother's Haven on Saturday for a synchronized breastfeeding event aimed at setting a new Guinness World Record.

Abigail Herman and about half a dozen other local nursing moms gathered at Saturday to participate in the Big Latch On to help set a world record.

"I want to be more comfortable breastfeeding," said Herman, the mother of a 3 1/2-month-old son. "Plus, an event like this is a good opportunity to meet other like-minded mothers."

From 10:30-10:31 a.m., eight mothers in Encino had their babies latched on and nursing for a full minute in an attempt to set a new Guinness World Record for the most women breastfeeding simultaneously. In October 2010, 9,826 nursing mothers were recorded at 325 sites in 16 countries, according to the organization's website.
