Weekend Planner: Rock Night at the L.A. Zoo, Summer Beach Bus, Cover Band Fever and More
Here's a list of indoor and outdoor activities for the entire family.
When/Where: Thursday, 6 p.m.-9 p.m., L.A. Zoo, 5333 Zoo Dr., Griffith Park.
Why Go: It's a rare opportunity to visit the zoo at night. Roam around, see the animals, imbibe at the beer garden, eat some barbecue and listen to classic rock, featuring Cubensis (Grateful Dead tribute band), The Heist (music from The Doors, Led Zeppelin, the Who and Creedence Clearwater Revival), The Lonely Hearts Club Band (Beatles tribute band), Heartache Tonight (Eagles tribute band), the Neil Morrow Band (Rolling Stones, Jimi Hendrix, and the rockin’ side of Elton John), David Vito Gregoli & the Moulin Bros. (music from James Taylor, Crosby, Stills and Nash and Loggins and Messina), Wayward Sons ("arena rock" songs by Journey, Queen, Styx and Foreigner), and L.A.vation (U2 tribute band).

Pricing: Admission to "Music in the L.A. Zoo" for GLAZA members is $13 for adults and $8 for children ages 6 to 15. Admission for non-members is $17 for adults and $11 for children ages 6 to 15. Children 5 and under are free.

When/Where: Monday to Saturday through September 5; Picks up at Owensmouth Ave. and Oxnard St., and at Ventura Blvd. and Topanga Cyn.
Why Go: Escape the heat of the Valley and spend a day at the beach. One-way tickets are only 50 cents! The bus drops off at Topanga Beach, Will Rogers State Beach and Santa Monica State Beach. Sponsored by the Los Angeles County Department of Public Works.

When/Where: Monday - Friday through August 19; Picks up at various locations in Agoura.
Why Go: The Summer Beach Bus Program transports from three pick-up locations in Agoura Hills to Zuma Beach in Malibu! Bring a photo ID (Driver’s License or School ID.)

Bruce in the USA at Concerts on the Green
When/Where: Sunday, 6 p.m. Warner Center Park, 5800 Topanga Canyon Blvd, Woodland Hills.
Why Go: This is the best Bruce Springsteen Tribute Band ever. Bring a picnic, chairs and a blanket.

Bicycle Rentals at Lake Balboa
When/Where: Daily through the summer, Lake Balboa. 6300 Balboa Blvd., Van Nuys.
Why Go: Choose from a variety of cycles, including Surreys, Choppers, Quad Sports, Deuce Coupes, Tandems and Cruisers. Circle around the lake to Wheel Fun Rentals.

Mind-Boggling Fun and Magic at Flappers
When/Where: Sunday, 9 p.m., Flappers Comedy Club, 102 Magnolia Blvd., Burbank.
Why Go: The hilarious Raul Fernandez returns with Jessie Altamirano, Les Cooper, Rhoel Garcia and David Martinez for an evening magic show in Flappers Main Room. These magicians are members of the International Brotherhood of Magicians, Society of American Magicians, the Academy of Magical Arts aka Magic Castle.
