Weekend Planner: Join in the Party of the Century

There's family fun at Burbank's birthday block party, plus Concerts on the Green and 'Macbeth' a la Fleetwood Mac.

When/Where: Friday, 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. City Hall, 275 E. Olive Ave., Burbank; encompasses six blocks in the area.

Why Go: Burbank is celebrating 100 years as an incorporated city. Featured will be food from Downtown Burbank restaurants, an air parade, multiple stages, top local bands and DJs, a mascot parade, children's entertainers, stilt walkers, centennial memorabilia and community booths. The Party of the Century will be the ultimate night on the town for kids and families. There will even be a giant cupcake to feed 2,000 people! The grand finale is a giant fireworks show.

When/Where: Sunday, 6 p.m. Warner Center Park, Topanga Canyon Boulevard and Califa Street, Woodland Hills.

Why Go: This is an unusual concert. Check out the 562nd Air National Guard Band of the Southwest, composed of citizen-airmen of various occupations and professions who act as musical ambassadors representing the state of California, the Air National Guard, and the U.S. Air Force.

When/Where: Friday-Sunday: Friday, 8 p.m.; Saturday, 4 p.m. and 8 p.m.; Sunday, 4 p.m. Falcon Theatre, 4252 Riverside Dr., Burbank.

Why Go: The Troubadour Theater Company’s Fleetwood Macbeth is a classic, hilarious Troubie mash-up of the Bard’s Macbeth and the rocking sound of Fleetwood Mac.

Pricing: Students, $27; general, $35-$38.

2011 Free Concerts at the Peter Strauss Ranch

When/Where: Sunday, 3 p.m.-5 p.m. Peter Strauss Ranch, 30000 Mulholland Highway, Agoura Hills.

Why Go: Enjoy watching two bands while sitting under oak trees in an amphitheater and experience the sound of I See Hawks, whose repertoire includes country, alt-country and folk. Also, check out Dustbowl Revival, which merges old-school gypsy rhythms with bluegrass, gospel, jug-band, jump blues and the hot swing of the 1930s. Their live sets often feature up to 10 instruments ranging from fiddle, banjo and mandolin to tuba, accordion, trombone and cornet.

Family Campfire Evening at King Gillette Ranch

When/Where: Tuesday, 7 p.m. King Gillette Ranch, 26800 Mulholland Hwy., Calabasas.

Why Go: Stretch the weekend longer on a Tuesday. Bring your favorite wildlife sighting story for an evening of fun stories and marshmallow-roasting around a campfire.
