Is it because Charles Shultz lived in the area?

It is there because Wilber flooded every year. The water would be up over the curb. A lot of children lived in the apartments on Collins. There was no safe way for them to cross the street to the school. Parents got together and held a demonstration demanding that a bridge be built. I lived in one of those apartments and saw the demonstration complete with a rubber lifeboat.
Wilber is a very busy street so it is good that the bridge is there even during the dry season.

I lived on Wilbur a half block south of Ventura during the 50's and remember the flooding when I went to that school. Don't think there was a signal at Wilbur & Ventura at that time either!

....We used to call it the Snoopy Bridge. We would always see it, while our parents, drove us on the 101 fwy, as we were kids. Since you brought it up, haven't really paid much attention to it, as an adult. I'm thinking maybe there's a sound wall up now, and thats why. Now I'm gonna look this week, just to see how its held up during all these years.......lol
