Wienerschnitzel to Mark 50th Year With 60-Cent Dogs

On Sunday, the fast-food chain will offer retro prices and a chance to win a trip to Germany.

If you dare travel the L.A. freeways this weekend, you should know that Wienerschnitzel, the world’s largest hot dog chain, will celebrate 50 years in business Sunday by rolling back the price of its chili dogs, mustard dogs and kraut dogs to the 1961 price tag of 60 cents.

The promotion will be available at all Wienerschnitzel locations, including nearby Canoga Park, Northridge, North Hollywood and Burbank.

Maybe that's why the Oscar Mayer Wienermobile was seen traveling down the 101 Freeway in Encino on Friday afternoon. (See photo).

At Wienerschnitzel, guests can also enter for a chance to win a trip for two to Germany. The trip includes roundtrip airfare to Munich, seven days/six nights of hotel accommodations and $1,000 spending cash. Entry forms will be available in stores on Sunday only.

In addition to marking the company's 50th year, the promotion was launched to "have some fun with our loyal fans,” said Tom Amberger, vice president of marketing for Wienerschnitzel, in a press release. "The trip to Germany is just a little fun we’re having with our name,” he added in the release.
