Help Give Los Encinos Park a Shot at $100,000

Supporters of the state historic park, on Brown's closure list, are urged to vote in a nationwide contest that will award grant funds to public lands.

So far, it's a long shot, but Los Encinos State Historic Park in Encino could have a chance to win a $100,000 corporate grant—if enough of its supporters vote.

Coca-Cola's "America Is Your Park" contest asks people to vote online for their favorite national, state or local park for the chance to win grants to benefit the top three winning parks. The top vote-getter will receive a $100,000 grant. The second-place winner will receive $50,000, and the third-place winner, $25,000. The campaign aims to encourage people to get out and enjoy parks across America.

As of Wednesday afternoon, with 1,649 votes, Los Encinos State Historic Park is in 93rd place in the contest. The park is among the sites under Gov. Jerry Brown's plan to shut down as many as 70 of California’s 278 parks, due to budget cuts.
