FREE class: Insect Friends with Benefits
The average home garden harbors insects, spiders, centipedes, and other many-legged creatures, often to the horror of the human observer. Enlightened gardeners know that many of these fearsome creatures help maintain healthy plants, by preying upon plant-eating pests, and reducing the use of harsh chemicals. The summer installment of the CSUN-al Gardening Series will focus on who these multi-legged warriors are, how to welcome them to the home garden, and how to enlist them in the war against garden pests.
On Saturday, August 16, 2014, from 9 to 11 a.m., Jim Hogue, CSUN Biology Department entomologist and curator of the Herbarium, Insect & Vertebrate Collections will show you how to recognize and encourage beneficial insects and other many-legged predators in your garden.
While the class is free, registration is required. To register, send your e-mail request to botanicgarden@csun.edu and include your name and the number of seats you wish to reserve. Driving and parking instructions, as well as the classroom location, will be sent with confirmation of registration. The same email address may also be used for questions about the class.
