A View from Left Field-Time's Running Out on the Republicans

Where the Republicans went wrong

I believe that the nation has turned a corner.  The pomposity and divisiveness of right wing rhetoric as evidenced by Fox Broadcasting, a host of radio outlets and Republican position statements have begun to impact less and less on our evolving democracy.  White dominance over the reigns of power has begun to loosen as “the content of one’s character begins to replace the color of one’s skin.”  Thank you Dr. King.

As the diversity of the nation increases, new leaders are immerging with fresh ideas and varied ethnicities.  Witness the recent Democratic Convention where mayor’s like Cory Booker, of Newark, New Jersey and Julian Castro of San Antonio, Texas shared their views for a better America.  They were bright, insightful and offer much reassurance that a multi-cultural America will stand the test of time and keep America great.

On the other hand, the Republicans traipsed out Condolesa Rice and Marco Rubio as trophy prizes to a convention hall enveloped in a sea of white.  As Bob Dylan once chimed, “these times they are a changin’.”   Republican days are numbered.  They can’t continue to support rich upper class white values while the multi-colored hue of America keeps expanding while getting the shaft.  The red state guys are on the wrong wide of the immigration issue, the wrong side of the healthcare issue, the wrong side of the women’s rights issue and the wrong side of the religious issue.

While our leadership remains ostensibly white, the country has “morphed” into a multi-colored canvass of citizens that demand a seat at the table.  In the new America the rights of all, not just the “good old boys and their special interest friends, deserve consideration.”  Inclusiveness and its concomitant values will be the future qualifier for leadership in America.  Time is running out!  The Republicans better get on board and broaden their appeal to all voters if the want to remain viable in the elections ahead.
