Free Spay and Neuter Appointments Coming to the Sepulveda Dog Park

Sign up now for an appointment to get your pet spayed or neutered for free on May 5, or come along on the day and adopt a dog!

As part of Big Sunday Weekend, volunteers from the , along with Los Angeles Animal Services and the Los Angeles Spay Neuter Project (SNP/LA), are hosting a dog adoption, spaying and neutering event on Saturday, May 5 at the park.

SNP/LA is offering the spay and neuter service for free with a $70 voucher from the LAAS. To obtain your voucher, call the LAAS on 310-574-5555. You can also pay $65 cash on the day for the service.

Jill Croce, who volunteers at the park, told Encino-Tarzana Patch that appointments for free spay or neutering services were still available but should be booked in advance, as spots have filled up fast in the past.

There will also be a low-cost vaccination clinic and pet licensing booth, as well as a craft table to help make chew toys for shelter dogs. Guest speakers will also be offering advice on training, as well as tips on dog body language and an introduction to dog park etiquette. Jillian Boyd and Russ Avison, the co-hosts of Atomic Dog Radio (a talk show about canines) as well as Brenda Barnette of LAAS, are slated to speak.

The park volunteers are also organizing the collection of blankets, bedding and food for animals at Los Angeles shelters. Croce told Patch that local residents who would like to help can organize blanket, bedding and dog food collection drives at their offices, clubs, schools and places of worship, and then bring them to the park on the day of the event.

Volunteers are also gathering before the day's events begin to plant 25 trees and help clean the park, and, in Croce's words, "make it shine!"
