VIDEO: Shower Truck Helps Homeless 'Feel Like a Human Again'

Every week, a traveling shower truck gives thousands of homeless people in the Valley an opportunity to clean themselves and receive fresh clothing.

Once a week, a mobile shower truck from the San Fernando Valley Rescue Mission offers showers to people in Sherman Oaks who are living on the streets or in their cars. The number of people who have no access to a bathroom on a daily basis has increased dramatically over the past two years.

Rob Baskerville of the San Fernando Valley Rescue Mission said the number of homeless in the Valley in the past year has increased from about 7,000 to between 8,000 and 9,000.

The "mobile shower unit" travels to a different Valley neighborhood six days a week. Take a look at its stop in Sherman Oaks in this accompanying video from Sherman Oaks Patch Editor Doug Kriegel.

Delete Alannah 2:44pm on Tuesday, October 18, 2011 It would be amazing to get something like this for Melbourne City, Australia 3000. I see daily homeless men and woman who want the opportunity to go for an interview but can't due to their hair, teeth and body odour being extremely unacceptable for companies. Your guys helping out are angels! Just remember not all homeless humans get there due to an addiction-reality is the streets make them addicted to try and cover the hurt and tragedy they now are living through. - Alannah

What would it take to get a shower truck down into Skid Row, where there are not even water hoses to sprinkle on oneself? How much does it cost to run one of those trucks?
