Final Farmers Market Saturday: Closed Till Spring

The Final Farmers Market of the year will be held Saturday, it will re open in the spring at a location to be decided.

The Sherman Oaks Farmers Market will be open on Saturday December 24, and that will be the final event of the year, according to Dr. Robert Cohen president of the Sherman Oaks Chamber of Commerce.

Earlier this week, Dr. Cohen said the Sherman Oaks Farmers Market is suspending operations.

"The crowds got smaller as we moved into the winter months, and so we decided to close things down," said Cohen.

"We're looking for a new location, we might move into the area where the cars have been parking," added Cohen.

The location, on a large parcel of land at Sepulveda Boulevard and Camarillo Street, is the proposed site of a major housing development, Il Villaggio Toscano, which requires city approval before construction can begin.

"The proposed development really had nothing to do with our decision," said Cohen.

During its eight-month run, the market has attracted vendors from all over Southern California. Customers raved about the freshness of oranges from Riverside County, and the beef from a Santa Barbara ranch and homemade curry pies were a big hit.

People will be notified when a new location is found, Cohen indicated.

I'm sure the Sherman Oaks Farmer's Market will find a new location, hopefully one that's within walking distance of me because I want to visit it. :)

What a disappointment!! I loved going the on Saturday morning and getting all those wonderful fresh foods. I hope they find a place very soon. Great Breakfast Burritos too.

I thought the Sherman Oaks Farmer's Market was the one on Tuesday nights on Woodman? What is that one called?

I called it the food poisoning farmers market. I got poisoned by the Salvadoran vendors that were there - watch out for those guys and their giant tub of unrefrigerated, rancid salsa.
