Moms looking for a place to focus on fitness, make new friends and give back to their communities should try Moms in Motion (MIM), a new fitness trend. MIM LA currently trains every Saturday in Griffith Park and will be expanding to include a new team in Encino on January 14, focused primarily on running, walking, and toning.

The Encino team will train for the Deena Kastor 5K at the Great Race of Agoura on March 24, while the Griffith Park team will concentrate on training for 10K and Half-Marathon distances at the same event.

Moms In Motion came to Los Angeles in 2007 when personal trainer and coach Lucie Murray formed a team in Griffith Park. Team leader Karen Kalan has been working with Lucie and the Griffith Park team for the past year and is now launching her own team in Encino.

In addition to training together, each season MIM LA works with local charities as part of their philanthropic outreach. In the past MIM has donated books to the Children's Hospital Los Angeles, provided holiday gifts for families at LA Family Housing, and volunteered at local races including the Pasadena Marathon, Griffith Park Half Marathon, and Ovarian Cancer Coalition 5K/10K.

Moms In Motion draws women of all ages and abilities, women who have recovered from life-threatening illness, women who have never been active before, past athletes, women looking for a new challenge, women who want to address weight issues, and women who just want to make new friends.

“For thousands of women, Moms In Motion is the highlight of their week,” says Founder Jamie Allison.

The Encino kickoff will be held in Balboa Park on Saturday, January 14th at 10:30 am. The team meets just north of the tennis courts on Balboa Blvd.
