It's Election Day in the West Valley

There is an election today, November 19th for the 45th Assembly District. This seat represented the West San Fernando Valley including the communities of: Calabasas, Hidden Hills, Canoga Park, Encino, Northridge, Reseda, West Hills, Winnetka, Woodland Hills, Bell Canyon and part of Chatsworth. In the primary held in September fewer than 9% of the more than 250,000 eligible voters cast a ballot.

There are two candidates running for the unfulfilled term of now Los Angeles City Councilmen Bob Blumenfield. The election is costing the County of Los Angeles about $1 Million. The field has been narrowed down from 11 candidates.

The person who is elected will likely be representing the West Valley for the next 6 years maybe longer.

Keep in mind, the winner will have a hand determining your property taxes, how much your son or daughter will pay to go to community college and whether there are enough spaces in the classes critical for their graduation from college. This person will shape future regional transportation planning, the state's energy policy and whether your company can afford to remain in Los Angeles.

There is a lot on the line today so if the future matters to you vote. Here is where you can locate your polling place: https://www.lavote.net/LOCATOR/, If you need to know more about the candidates you can watch their most recent debate. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oYEvM5qxobI&feature=share

Polls are open until 8:00 PM.
