The Nanny Institute

Caring for our children is one of the most important jobs anyone can hold. Yet, many of these child care providers are barely educated in the field.

The number of nannies in Los Angeles are immigrant women who come to this country in search of a better life. They fall into these jobs because they are also willing to do housekeeping. However, when it comes to child care experience, very few have any formal education in this area. Other types of women may take on this role while pursing different careers. Either way, in all cases, many of these individuals lack professional training.

Our local community colleges carry a "child development program".  Other ways of obtaining training would be through workshops and seminars. Most jobs require some level of training, but when it involves caring for infants and toddlers, it is mandatory.  Employers can help their nannies by sending them to these classes so that they become better child care providers for their families.
