Emmy-Winning Writer Hal Kanter, Creator of TV's 'Julia,' Dies [VIDEO]

Kanter, who was 92, died Sunday in Encino.

Hal Kanter, a writer, director and producer who was best known for creating the groundbreaking television series Julia, died in Encino on Sunday, the New York Times reported. He was 92.

Kanter's Times obituary notes that Julia, which starred Diahann Carroll, was "the first television series to center on the life of a black professional woman." Kanter was also a regular part of the Academy Awards show writing team, for which he shared two Emmys, according to the Times. To read the full tribute, click here.
